The rain started in earnest last night just before mid-night. We have received approx. 1 1/2” of rain according to the weatherman on the KVUE-TV newscast. It is a slow and steady rain that can seep into the Edward’s aquifer (a major source of water for this region) and also help to fill Lake Travis. The weather man stated that last year was Texas’ third driest summer on record and with all the rain we’ve had the lake is still at only 78% capacity. The system that is over us appears to be very large, extending across Texas and into New Mexico where it is causing some snow.
We had originally intended to go to Fredericksburg to see the National Museum of the Pacific War, which is reputed to be very immersive and hands-on. Some of the static displays are outdoors so in light of the rain we decided to take our chances that it would clear up. So today we did a little clean-up around the trailer.
The news here has some similarities to Winnipeg’s local newscasts. Right now there is an election for Governor and the state Senate and House of Representatives. But the really big news was “Signing Day” for the Universities. They take their football really seriously in the US. This was “Signing Day” for High School football players being picked up by the Universities to play for them. Live TV coverage, in-depth interviews the whole nine yards, so to speak. But I suppose they would never understand curling!
Anyway, it was a slow news day for this reporter. Good-bye!
